Automating sprinkler system drafting

The problem

Sprinkler system drafting meant hours of repetitive AutoCAD work on every project: placing heads room by room and routing pipe, all while keeping every placement compliant with NFPA-13 and NYC building code.

What we built

We built a custom AutoCAD plugin that reads the floor plan, extracts rooms automatically from the drawing's own labels, and places sprinkler heads according to code requirements. The engineer reviews and adjusts instead of drafting from scratch.

The result

Drafting time per drawing dropped from hours to minutes, and code compliance is built into every placement instead of checked after the fact.
